The Newest Harbour Lights have arrived in the shop. The look great!! Today's feature piece is Makapu'u, Hawaii. Here is the snippet of information that Harbour Lights has about this majestic lighthouse:
Makapu'u, Hawaii Beginning in 1888, seamen had petitioned for a lighthouse to be built at Makapu'u Point on the island of Oahu. In June 1906, the United States Congress appropriated $60,000 for its construction. The beacon was first lit on October 1, 1909. The Lighthouse Board decided to use the hyper-radiant First Order Lens purchased in 1887 and exhibited at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair but had since been in storage. After a volcanic flow destroyed the keeper's dwelling, the United States Coast Guard fully automated the station on January 1, 1974.
